Case Study — Tavern Lords

Worldbuilding from the First Sketch to a Live Game on Steam

SHORT ABOUT

From early visual concepts and artistic decisions to a cohesive, living ecosystem that now exists as a fully playable game on Steam — and continues to evolve through regular updates.

SCOPE OF WORK

I was responsible for the overall artistic vision and visual consistency of the game, including:

  • Art direction and visual worldbuilding

  • Environment and narrative illustrations

  • Supervision of animation style and quality

  • UX/UI design — from icons and HUD elements to full screen layouts

  • Close collaboration with developers, animators, and illustrators

We met weekly to iterate, refine, and expand the world — system by system, location by location.
It was a long-term, collaborative process focused on clarity, atmosphere, and coherence.

ABOUT THE GAME

Tavern Lords is a fantasy tavern simulator.

Players step into the role of a Bartender, freely walking through the core locations of the tavern:

  • The Tavern — the heart of the business

  • The Brewery — producing drinks

  • The Kitchen — preparing meals

  • Serving customers and managing supplies

  • Handling everyday chaos (sometimes chasing rats out of the soup)

  • Hiring and managing staff

But this is only one layer of the experience.

I came to test a tavern sim — I stayed because the world felt alive.
