Galicja is a book that has performed exceptionally well on the Polish publishing market from the very beginning. The title quickly gained strong readership traction and continues to sell at a high level, becoming a visible and influential presence in contemporary non-fiction publishing.
The second, expanded edition further reinforces the importance of the book and its visual identity, which plays a key role in its recognition both in bookstores and online.
The goal of the project was to create a distinctive, timeless cover design that:
reflects the historical and cultural depth of the Galician region,
uses symbolic language rather than literal illustration,
stands out on bookstore shelves while remaining elegant and refined,
supports the book’s long-term sales and recognizability.
One of the best examples of his talent is the cover design for Galicia by Norman Davies—a groundbreaking approach to the visual interpretation of a historical book that set new aesthetic and narrative standards for the genre.”

The project was developed in close, ongoing consultation with Znak Publishing House. From the early stages, the visual direction was rooted in historical research and heraldic references.
The main inspiration came from the colors of the Galician coat of arms, which became the foundation for the entire color system of the cover.
I designed an original floral illustration motif, created specifically for this book. The artwork was meant to feel ornamental and symbolic rather than illustrative in a literal sense — referencing heritage, land, and continuity.
The illustration was prepared for print using separate Pantone colors, ensuring full control over color accuracy and consistency in the final production.
A promotional event for the book took place at the Jewish Museum Galicia in Kraków, with the participation of the author, Professor Norman Davies. The meeting was organized around the publication “Galicja. A Non-National History” and attracted significant public and media attention.
For this occasion, we had the pleasure of creating a looped animation that served as the visual background for the event. The animation was designed to complement the book’s visual identity, subtly reinforcing its themes and atmosphere while supporting the live discussion.
